Description
She’s wearing a fancy skirt (cueitl) and huipil, as well as turquoise and gold jewelry. As many Aztec noblewomen did, she has her skin dyed with yellow ocher and her lips are dyed red. Her hair is in the horn hairstyle, her fringe is braided in two braids so that they stick up straight.
The cueitl was a long fabric made of cotton, maguey, palm fiber, or yucca cloth. It was worn around the lower torso and was wrapped around the waist and secured there. The fabric could be plain or have a trim, embroidery, colourful dye, and jewels on it. The decoration of the cueitl was not only to show the class, but also the age of the wearer. Older women wore more elaborate ones, while girls wore very simple ones, often plain white or with a red band on the bottom. Even younger girls would have no colour on their clothing
